Brian May is best known for being the guitarist in Queen and for his animal-protection work– but he’s also passionately interested in photography, particularly stereoscopic and 3D imagery. His latest book, written with Denis Pellerin and Paula Fleming, is Diableries: it’s a fascinating collection of stereo cards – basically a 3D view printed on paper – with macabre and satirical images of devils and the underworld on them.

Better the devil you know
These cards were fi rst sold in England and France around 1853, and became hugely popular during that decade. Diableries takes you on a dark journey to a fantastic underworld of devils, satyrs and skeletons, and gives a glimpse into the earliest days of 3D photography. And we’ve got three copies to give away!

HOW TO ENTER
We’ve got three copies to give away! Go to www.futurecomps.co.uk/dc145 and fill out the entry form. Diableries, by Brian May, Denis Pellerin and Paula Fleming, is published by The London Stereoscopic Company Ltd. See Events for details of author events.

The Owl is a hoot
Diableries comes with a special stereoscope, designed by Brian May, for viewing the images. The device is called the Owl: it lets you enjoy
these infernally entertaining images as they were originally intended.

The closing date is 6 December 2013, when three entries will be randomly selected from all entries, and the successful entrants notififed. Multiple entries will be disqualified. Only UK residents may enter this competition. Other terms and conditions apply: see the competition web page for details.
